A rare "1/3" model Sharps & Hankins Army carbine. This variant has just recently come to light. These particular army carbines had leather covering on approximately the first 1/3 of the barrel. This is evidenced by the remains of the screws on either side of the barrel (as shown in the photos)that were used to attach the leather. This particular example has good wood, tight action, sharp markings, and a good bore. Balance of metal is a gray patina. Just wish it had its leather. However, it is a very good example of a rare variant.
