Signed Jacob Dickert Pennsylvania longrifle. Barrel is 44-3/4" long, approximately 50CAL, and 7/8" across the flats. I believe this rifle to be a period re-stock, as many were, of a late 1700s Dickert rifle. Barrel is signed "J. Dickert" and the furniture is Dickert's style of that era. The lock is marked "Drepert" and fits the opening perfectly. The cock is also classic Drepert. It leads me to believe that Drepert's shop may have done the work. Stock is a wonderful piece of curly maple and shows no repairs. Metal is a smooth dark patina. Barrel key escutcheons are silver, and one is missing on the right side at the muzzle. It could be easily replaced. The workmanship, fit, and finish on the rifle is very nice. This is a classic Lancaster PA rifle that bears the signatures of two well respected area makers. Shipping and insurance will probably run $75 to $100. I pad the rifles and strap them to a 1X4 and use a new telescoping box. It costs a little bit more, but makes for a much safer shipment.
